Chemical Peels are the Secret to Flawless Skin

What are the Benefits?

  • Pores Look Smaller                          Chemical peels can help to shrink the appearance of pores. Pores appear enlarged when they are clogged with dirt and bacteria, resulting in blackheads. During a chemical peel treatment, chemicals seep into the epidermis and remove the dead skin cells on the surface. The dirt and bacteria that can clog pores is loosened, which makes the pores look smaller.

  • Improves Acne
Chemical peels are often used to treat acne and acne scars. By delivering a stronger dose of acid than many over-the-counter acne treatments contain, the peel targets problem areas and removes layers of breakout-causing dirt, bacteria and dead skin cells from your face and neck. The result is a brighter, more even complexion.

  • Reverses Sun Damage                                       Extended exposure to the sun can cause discoloration and dark spots on the surface of your skin. Chemical peels expose a fresh layer of skin and less the appearance of sun-related spots. Chemical peels stimulate the rebuilding of skin cells, and this rapid regrowth results in a brighter, more even complexion.

  • Anti-Aging
Many look to chemical peels as a way to reduce wrinkles and other symptoms of aging. The acids work to strengthen deep layers of your skin, which helps to soften fine lines and gives your face a fresh, more plump appearance.

What is a chemical acid peel?

Chemical acid peels are simply a chemical peel that features an alpha hydroxy or beta hydroxy acid as the main component.

Chemical peels are currently a popular treatment for  dark marks, winkles and acne. Chemical peels are natural and can be derived from sugar cane or fruit acids. When applied to the skin, it helps to remove the “glue” that holds the older, rougher and dryer skin on the surface. When it removes that top layer of skin, the fresh, new layer is visible. It’s this layer that’s without damage and which looks fresher.

People who have chemical peels are often amazed with the results – they look younger, with fewer fine lines and wrinkles and if they have acne and dark marks, they often notice their skin is less oily and is much even and clearer.

How do chemical peels work?

If you decide to have a chemical peel, you can choose to have a fairly light peel done that will usually result in few, if any, side effects.

A light layer of the peel is applied to your face and left for a period of time. This period of time is dependent on the particular peel you are having, the reasons for having it and the person who is performing the peel.

The peel is removed and you are free to leave the office. With a light peel, there is no real recovery time and no pain relievers are necessary. Often one chemical peel isn’t enough. You will usually be given a series of treatments over a prescribed period of time for optimum results.

Are there any side effects?

There are few if any side effects after a chemical peel. Right after the treatment you might feel some tingling, but it often goes away quickly. you might have some redness, but this usually goes away fairly quickly. If you have sensitive or very fair skin you are more likely to experience these types of side effects. Because chemical peels can make your skin more sensitive to the sun, it is recommended that you wear sunscreen after having the treatments.
